Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University unfurled the importance of startups by organizing a one day workshop on Accelerating Business Startups in Aquaculture

Dr.MGR.Fisheries College & Research Institute, a constituent unit of Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University conducted a one day workshop on “Accelerating Business Startups in Aquaculture” on 14.03.2020 at Institute of Fisheries Post Graduate Studies, OMR. The nauguration of this workshop commenced with the lighting of lamp by a group of dignitaries of Mr. Padmasingh Issac, Founder & Director of Aachi Group of Companies, Prof .S. Felix, Vice Chancellor, TNJFU, Dr.Santhana Krishnan, CEO of S.K.Marine Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Ramakrishna Rao, Senior Executive (Technical) from NFDB, Hyderabad, Dr.B.Ahilan, Dean & Convener, Dr.MGR. FC&RI, Ponneri & Dr.S.A.Shanmugham, Dean, IFPGS.


The Convener of the workshop welcomed the dignitaries and the participants. He also briefed the background on the theme of the workshop in which the idea is conceived and how its importance in today’s context of the sector. The felicitation address of the workshop was delivered by Dr.Santhana Krishnan and Mr.Ramakrishan Rao during the time of inauguration. Mr.Padmasingh Issac, Founder & Chairman of the Aachi Group of Companies graced this inauguration as a Chief Guest to motivate the young entrepreneurs for starting a venture in Aquaculture sector.


The Chief Guest insisted the resource potential of India endowed with major water bodies however the fish production data by the country falls very short impacting the insignificance of the sector in the country’s GDP. An increase in export potential along with the trading of ornamental fishes was also discussed by him. He motivated the participants to start a venture by facing possible challenges in undertaking the entrepreneurship. He also emphasized the importance of branding the fish and fishery products by adding value to the farm produce. He further encouraged the University to offer multidisciplinary courses from which many sectors can work in an integrated manner for the development of the Indian Fisheries and Aquaculture sector.


Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof.S.Felix delivered the presidential address in which he made a clear cut importance of having a startups in Aquaculture. He listed all the possible ventures in the aquaculture sector by highlighting the supply chain and need of innovative ideas for the growth of the sector through these startups. Major initiatives taken by the University and industrial scale incubation facilities available at the University for undertaking Farming, Fish Processing and Breeding was also dealt in his talk. To make Aquaculture as a recession proof industry, the need of startups and its role in the sector was his one line mantra spearheaded in this workshop. A Coffee Table Book outlining the technologies developed by the University and a miniature Aquaculture Business Contact Directory were released during the inauguration

Dr.S.A.Shanmugam offered a vote of thanks to all including Prof. S.Felix, Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University without whom this event wouldn’t have been possible. He thanked all the dignitaries for gracing the occasion by their presence and to all the 200 participants of the workshop who were the main ingredient of this workshop.
