Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Nagapattinam district was established on 01.08.2004 at Sikkal village to work as resource and knowledge centre for agricultural and allied enterprises, supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector thro’ OFTs, FLDs, trainings, exposure and crop diagnostic visits with the ultimate objective of improving the livelihood of the farmers, rural women, farm entrepreneurs and SHGs. Nagapattinam is representing the coastal eco-system with hot sub-humid to semi-arid eco-system having a growing period of 90 to 210 days. This is situated in Cauvery Delta Zone of Tamil Nadu at the tail end of the Cauvery river basin facing acute water scarcity during Kharif and Summer and floods and cyclone during North East monsoon season. Previously this KVK was functioning under the control of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore from 01.08.2004 to 31.03.2018.From 01.04.2018 the administrative control was transferred from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University to Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University

Pre season Agriculture Seminar

Pre season Agriculture Seminar was conducted on 27.05.2018 at KVK, Sikkal, Nagapattinam Dt. A total of 130 farmers were participated. Chief Guest of the programme was Hon’ble Handloom and Textiles Minister Mr. O.S.Maniyan and released booklet on Fish culture in farm ponds and Folders on Integrated Farming System technology. He delivered the importance of IFS for doubling the farmers income in the special address. Dr.M.Nagoor Meeran, DEE, TNJFU, Nagapattinam has welcomed the gatherings. Mr.P.V.Bharathi, MLA, Sirkazhi, Mr.V.Rathakrishnan, MLA, Mayiladuthurai were given felicitation address. Prof.S.Felix, Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalaithaa Fisheries University, Nagapattinam delivered special address with aim of KVK and their future thrust. Dr.S.Sureshkumar, IAS, District Collector, Nagapattinam has presided over the function. District Collector asked the farmers to use the KVK effectively for season and location specific new technologies and varieties for Agriculture and allied activities. Mr.M.Narayanasamy, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Nagapattinam, Mr.K.Govinthan, Regional Joint director of Animal hunbandry, Mr.K.P.Panneerselvam, Executive Engineer, Agricultural Engineering Department, Mr.S.Neethimanikkam, Horticultural Officer, Nagapattinam were delivered the keynote address. In the technical session, Dr.S.Porpavai, Professor and Head, Soil and Water management Research Institute, Thanjavur has imparted training on IFS technologies, Dr.Suresh, Asst.Professor and Head, Veterinary University Training and Research Centre, Nagapattinam has delivered lecture on animal husbandry and goat farming, Dr.Raja Ramesh, SMS(Agri. Ento), KVK, Thiruvarur has delivered guest lecture on IPDM technologies for Agriculture and Horticulture crops. Dr. R.Santhakumar Programme Coordinator, KVK, Sikkal has given vote of thanks. Mr.N.Sampathkumar, Officer incharge, KVK, Sikkal, Mr.V.Gnanabharathi, Programme Asst.(Technical) and Mr. R.Vedharethinam, Farm Manager were organized the programme successfully.

Irrigation Commanded by Cauvery net work and this district is at the tail end of the Cauvery delta. Drainage is the most feared problem experienced even in normal years during North east monsoon forcing to go for rice cultivation in the Samba season.
