Vice-Chancellor’s visit to the Directorate of Incubation and Vocational Training in Aquaculture (DIVA),
Five days training programme on “Entrepreneurship & Skill Development among SC Unemployed Youth in Aquaculture and Fisheries Sector at DIVA
International yoga day was conducted on 21.06.2023 in Directorate of Incubation and Vocational training in Aquaculture (DIVA), Muttukadu. In which a total of 40 students and 10 staff members of this institute participated and performed yoga awareness on health benefit of performing yoga was also provided to the students by Mr. A. Mohan yoga trainer.
Dr. G. Sugumar, Vice-Chancellor, TNJFU visited the aquafeed mill at DIVA campus on 07.01.2021. 180 kg Tilapia floating feeds were sold to the fish farmers (Venkatesan. K, Ray Agro farm, Mamandur, Chengalpattu district & Rajesh. V.M., Sirupinaiyur, Chengalpattu district) in the presence of Vice-Chancellor. Dr. N. Felix, Director, organised the event.
Directorate of Incubation and Vocational training in Aquaculture (DIVA) celebrated 72nd Republic day at DIVA campus on 26.01.2021. Dr. N. Felix, Director, DIVA, hoisted the flag and delivered presidential address to the staff of DIVA highlighting the importance of Republic India and the responsibilities of every citizens and their role in contributing towards the development of our country. In this occasion, to appreciate the efforts of staff, best worker awards were given to S. Vijayalaksmi (Assistant) and K. Paramasivan (Office Assistant) for their contribution in the successful administration of DIVA.

Directorate of Incubation and Vocational training in Aquaculture (DIVA) organised “Shrimp harvest day” on 07.01.2021 at outdoor aquaculture unit, DIVA, Muttukadu. Dr. G. Sugumar, Vice-Chancellor, TNJFU inaugurated the shrimp harvest and commenced the sales. Dr. N. Felix, Director, DIVA, organised the event.
Vice-Chancellor, Dr. G. Sugumar, visited DIVA campus on 28.09.2020 and had discussions about the various activities of DIVA. Shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) seeds were stocked by the respected Vice-Chancellor in the newly constructed lined pond. He then visited the aquafeed mill, inspected the operation of twin-screw extruder and different types of aquafeed produced in the DIVA campus. The construction of the new academic building in the DIVA campus has also been inspected by the Vice-Chancellor.
A batch of 22 farmers undergoing a training programme “Fish feed production and important nutrient testing” organised by State referral lab for feed analysis and quality certification at Institute of Fisheries Post Graduate Studies (IFPGS) visited the aquafeed mill and gained knowledge on the production of different types of feed produced in the DIVA campus.
Centre for Incubation and Vocational training in Aquaculture (CIVA), Poondi, a unit under the Directorate of Incubation and Vocational training in Aquaculture (DIVA) organised a one-day programme on “Fish harvest day and awareness program on cage culture of fish” on 06.11.2020 at the cage culture unit, Poondi reservoir. Dr. G. Sugumar, Vice-Chancellor, TNJFU commenced the harvesting of fish and sales. Fish seeds were stocked by the respected Vice-Chancellor in the cages and in the hapas. He has also delivered a presidential address to the beneficiaries highlighting the importance of culture of fishes in cages. Dr. N. Felix, Director, welcomed the gathering and proposed vote of thanks. A total of 30 Inland fishermen participated in the programme. Pangasius and GIFT tilapia were sold to the participants.
In commemoration of the World Fisheries Day, the Fisheries Awareness Meet was organised in Directorate of Incubation and Vocational training in Aquaculture (DIVA), Muttukadu on 21.11.2020. A total of 18 fisher folk from Kundrukkadu fishing village participated in this meet. Dr. N. Felix, Director, DIVA emphasized the importance of responsible fishing and fisheries, undergraduate programmes and constituent units that are available in our University. The participants visited all the research and production facilities of this Directorate. At end of the program, saplings were planted and the importance of tree plantation for environmental protection was explained. Th. C. Manavalan, Farm Technician welcomed the participants and Th. B. Kannan, SRF proposed vote of thanks.
Pacific white shrimp, Penaeus vannamei, were harvested in the indoor aquaculture complex, Directorate of Incubation and Vocational training in Aquaculture (DIVA) on 17.12.2020. Shrimp post larvae were procured from Raj hatchery for the industry institute project, nursery reared and cultured in cement tanks (24m3 volume) for a period of 120 days. Survival was estimated to be 90% with an average size of 30 grams. Dr. N. Felix, Director, commenced the harvesting of shrimps and 32 kg were harvested and sold.
