"Harnessing the Science of Fisheries for Food, Nutrition and Livelihood"
A five-day training programme titled "Entrepreneurship & Skill Development among SC Unemployed Youth in Aquaculture and Fisheries Sector" was held from March 26, 2024, to March 30, 2024, at DIVA with funding support from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB). Dr. E. Prabu, Assistant Professor, extended a warm welcome to the participants during the inaugural session. The function was inaugurated by Dr. K. Ravaneswaran, Director i/c of DIVA. Mr. Mohanraj, Project Manager, Mr. Ramkumar, Programme Organizer, and Mr. Balakrishnan, Coordinator of IED (NGO), were instrumental in facilitating the training programme. Various lectures were delivered by Dr. E. Prabu, Dr. K. Abarna, Ms. K. N. Krishnaveni, and Mr. A. MonishKumar, faculty members of DIVA, covering topics such as opportunities in Freshwater and Marine Aquaculture, value addition in fisheries, quality packaging and labelling of fishery products, market survey methodologies, tools and technologies and state fishery development schemes. A total of 25 fisherwomen from Kuntrukaadu, Chengalpattu district benefited from this training programme. Additionally, a field exposure visit was arranged as part of the programme. The coordination of this initiative was led by Dr. E. Prabu, Assistant Professor, and Ms. K. N. Krishnaveni, Assistant Professor, (Contractual) of DIVA.
