"Harnessing the Science of Fisheries for Food, Nutrition and Livelihood"
An One-day awareness program on "Engine maintenance and safety of fishermen at sea" was conducted in Thoothoor Centre for Incubation and Vocational Training in Fisheries (CIVF), Thengapattinam fishing harbor was held on 29.03.2021. The programme was conducted as a part of activity under the scheme funded by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu entitled "Establishment of Deep Sea fishing Technology Training and Management centre at Thoothukudi and Thoothoor". A total of 24 Deep sea going fishermen of Thoothoor region attended the programme. The technical aspects of the awareness programme included: i) Rules of the road, ii) Signaling methods during emergency, iii) Life saving devices, iv) Engine Maintenance and v) Marine electronic equipments.
Dr.N.Neethiselvan, Principal Investigator and Director, Directorate for Incubation and Vocational Training in Fisheries (DIVF) Ramanathapuram Mr.Xavier P.Rayan, Skipper (retired), Mr. Murugesh, Mechanical Engineer offered lectures. Followed by the lecture, there was a question answer session and group discussion. The group discussion held on three aspects viz Engine maintenance, Safety at Sea and Rules of the road. The entire programmes was co-ordinate by the Senior Research fellow of the scheme Mrs. C.Beena Mol. During the programme the fishermen were also provided about the information on B.Voc. (Industrial Fishing Technology) programme being offered at Institute of Industrial Fishing Technology of DIVF, Ramanathapuram.
