The Directorate of Incubation and Vocational Training in Fisheries (DIVF), a constituent unit of Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University organized five days of campus training programme on “Care and maintenance of Marine Engine and Sea Safety” from 09.10.2023 to 13.10.2023” jointly with ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, Rameshwaram. A total of 26 fishermen from the Rameshwaram Region of Ramanathapuram district participated in the programme. The inaugural function was held on 09.10.2023. Er.M. Sivasudalaimani, Mechanical Engineer, DIVF, Ramanathapuram welcomed the gathering. Mr.S. Gogulakrishnan, Development Officer, ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, Rameshwaram participated as Chief Guest and graced the occasion. In his Chief Guest address, the Development Officer emphasized the need for fishermen to take up technical training on the Care and maintenance of Marine engines to ensure safety at sea by learning the usage of Navigational equipment. Mr. M. Kalaiarasan, Assistant Professor, DIVF, Ramanathapuram presided over the function. In his presidential address, he explained the role of DIVF in imparting training to fishermen on aspects such as Navigational Chart work, Navigational equipment and Engine maintenance.
The training programme included various aspects related to the Care and Maintenance of Marine Engine and Sea Safety such as handling of navigational equipment, Seamanship appliances, Chart work, Navigational signals, Marine engine repair and maintenance, Firefighting, Wildlife act and endangered fish species. The valedictory function of the training programme was held on 13.10.2023 and Mr.S. Gogulakrishnan, Development Officer, ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, Rameshwaram participated as chief guest and distributed the certificates to the trainees.
