The Annual Sports Meet 2017-18 of the Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi was conducted at the college grounds on 23.03.2018. During inaugural function, Dy Inspector General SB Venkatesh, Commanding Officer, ICGS, Thoothukudi Town took salute of the march past contingents of students in the presence of Dr.G.Sugumar, Dean, Mr.F.Parthiban, Sports Secretary and Dr.D.Natarajan, Assistant Director of Physical Education followed by unfurling of the college flag. To enliven the sports event, the Olympic Torch was taken up by the athletes, which was followed by oath taking ceremony by the students. The sports meet was declared open by Dy Inspector General SB Venkatesh, Commanding Officer, ICGS, Thoothukudi and all students and staff of this institute attended the inaugural function.
About 25 athletic events were conducted and more than 250 students actively participated in the track and field events with true spirit of sportsmanship. Event Tug of war for staff Vs Students and Discuss throw for women staff were also conducted.
In the valedictory function, Mr.F.Parthiban, Sports Secretary welcomed the gathering. The Annual Sports Report was presented by Dr.D.Natarajan, Assistant Director of Physical Education. The Chief Guest Dy Inspector General SB Venkatesh, Commanding Officer, ICGS, Thoothukudi motivated the student community and emphasized the need of sports to maintain physical fitness, hard work to become success in life.
Presidential address was delivered by Dr.G.Sugumar, Dean, Fisheries College and Research Institute. Students gave a spectacular performance of the traditional games Robe Mallakhamb and Silambam. The prizes and medals were distributed by the Chief Guest. The best march past contingent was won by III B.F.Sc. students. Individual Athletic Championship for Men and Women were bagged by Mr.Tamilarasan, III B.F.Sc. and shared by Ms.S.Sangeetha, II B.F.Sc. & Ms.K.Kanimozhi, I B.F.Sc. respectively. The overall Championship was won by III B.F.Sc. Students. Mr.L.Sudhakar, Games Secretary proposed vote of thanks. Dr.D.Natarajan, Assistant Director of Physical Education Co-ordinated the entire sports meet.
