Training Programme on “Skill upgradtion on advanced freshwater ornamental fish culture technologies” conducted from 25.04.2024 to 27.04.2024 at Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi

Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi organized a three days training
programme on “Skill upgradtion on advanced freshwater ornamental fish culture
technologies” from 25.04.2024 to 27.04.2024 for the benefit of scheduled community
under the project on “Demonstration on advanced aquaculture and fisheries technologies for
augmenting the production and livelihoods of Scheduled Caste fisherfolk of southern coastal
Districts of Tamil Nadu” with the funding support of Central Institute of Fisheries Education,
Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR – CIFT) – as Scheduler Caste – (SC – SP) sub
plan component for Technology dissemination. A total of 25 scheduled caste community
beneficiaries from the rural area of Thoothukudi attended the training programme. This
programme was organized by the Department of Fisheries Extension, Economics and Statistics
of this institute. The valedictory programme was organized on 27.04.2024.

Dr.N.V.Sujathkumar, Professor and Head, Department of Fisheries Extension, Economics
and Statistics welcomed the gathering. Dr. B.Ahilan, Dean, FC&RI, Thoothukudi offered his
felicitation address. Dr.N.Felix, Vice-Chancellor of TNJFU, Nagapattinam presided over the
valedictory function and distributed the certificates to the trainees. In his presidential address,
he emphasized the importance of freshwater ornamental fish culture and its marketing. He
encouraged the trainees to start new venture in ornamental fish culture. During the training
programme, the classes such as commercially important ornamental fish species, live feeds for
freshwater ornamental fish culture, water quality management in freshwater ornamental fish
culture, breeding of fresh water ornamental fish egg layers and live bearers, feeds and feeding
management in ornamental fish culture, demonstration on breeding and packaging of fishes,
Disease management in ornamental fish culture, fabrication of Aquarium tanks, conditioning
and packaging of ornamental fishes, marketing and economics and entrepreneurship
development in ornamental fish culture were handled and demonstrated for the benefit of
trainees. Dr. G. Arul Oli, Assistant Professor and Project PI organized and the training
programme and proposed vote of thanks.
