A two-days training workshop on "Shark trade/by-catch Monitoring at Thoothukudi Harbor" conducted on 26-27th June' 2025 at Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi-628 008

The Department of Fisheries Biology and Resource Management, Fisheries. College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi organized A two-days training workshop entitled on "Shark trade /by-catch Monitoring at Thoothukudi Harbor" as part of the a project titled, "Conservation of Critically Endangered Hammerhead Sharks of India via Participatory Science" funded by WCT-BEES grant 2024 on 26-27th June' 2025 and followed by the practical demo Class at the Thoothukudi Fishing harbor in the night hours between 8.30 PM and12.30 PM
The inaugural session started at 11.00 a.m. at AV Hall, FC&RI, Thoothukudi. Dr. T. Ravikumar, Coordinator, Special Programme of this institute presided over the function. He emphasized that the status of shark and its varieties, Hammerhead shark in particular towards conservation of critically endangered species for sustainability both in-terms of biodiversity and ecosystem concern. Further, the importance of the workshop for the students' community is elucidated. Further, Dr.R.Durairaja, Assistant Professor and Organizing Secretary welcomed the gathering. A total of 140 students of UG, PG and Ph.D of our college were participated in this training workshop.
During this programme, the speakers, Ms. Usha Ravintra & Ms. Keerthika taught the students, the importance of the WTC-BEES Grant programme, status of shark, to identify various shark varieties, hammerhead shark in particular and morphometric measurement of sharks and to collect data from the community fisher and to upload the same observations to the citizen science portal. At the end of the session, a few of the students shared their feedback about this training work shop and thank them. Finally, Mr.K.Karuppasamy, Assistant Professor proposed a vote of thanks. Furthermore, the practical demo class conducted at 8.30 PM to 12.30 AM for PG and Ph.D students.
"தூத்துக்குடி மீன்பிடித் துறைமுகத்தில் சுறா உப மீன்பிடிப்பு மற்றும் வர்த்தக கண்காணிப்பு" பற்றிய இரண்டு நாள் (26.06.2025 மற்றும் 27.06.2025) கருத்துப்பட்டறை
தூத்துக்குடி மீன்வளக் கல்லூரி மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சி நிலையத்தில் மீன்வள உயிரியல் வள் மேலாண்மைத்துறை மற்றும் வனவிலங்கு பாதுகாப்பு அறக்கட்டளை, மற்றும் கோயம்புத்தூர் இணைந்து இரண்டு நாள் கருத்துப்பட்டறை "தூத்துக்குடி மீன்பிடித் துறைமுகத்தில் சுறா உப மீன்பிடிப்பு மற்றும் வர்த்தக கண்காணிப்பு” என்ற தலைப்பில் 26.06.2025 மற்றும் 27.06.2025 அன்று நடத்தப்பட்டது. இப்பயிற்சி முகாமானது "பங்கேற்பு அறிவியல் மூலம் இந்தியாவில் மிகவும் அழிந்து வரும் சுத்தியல் தலை சுறாக்களின் பாதுகாப்பு" என்ற திட்டத்தின் ஒரு பகுதியாக கல்லூரி வளாகத்தில் 26.06.2025 அன்று காலை ஒரு விரிவுரையும் அதனைத்தொடர்ந்து அன்றிரவு (8.30pm to 12.30am தூத்துக்குடி மீன்பிடி துறைமுகத்தின் சுறா மீன்கள் பற்றிய செயல்முறை வகுப்பு நடைபெற்றது.
இப்பயிற்சியில் உதவி பேராசிரியர் மற்றும் பயிற்சி ஒருங்கிணைப்பாளர் முனைவர் த. ரவிக்குமார் அவர்கள் தலைமையுரை ஆற்றினார். இவ்விழாவில் 140 இளநிலை, முதுகலை மற்றும் முனைவர் பட்டப்படிப்பு மாணவர்கள் பங்கேற்றனர். இவ்விழாவின் துவக்கமாக மீன்வள உயிரியல் மற்றும் வள மேலாண்மை துறை உதவி பேராசிரியர் மற்றும் தலைவர் முனைவர். ரா. துரைராஜா வரவற்புரை வழங்கினார். அவர் தனது வரவேற்புரையில் சுறா மீன்களை எவ்வாறு பாதுகாப்பது என்பதை பற்றி விளக்கி கூறினார். பின்னர் இப்பயிற்சிசியின் விரிவுரையாளர்களான, முனைவர் உஷா ரவீந்திரா மற்றும் செல்லி. கீர்த்திகா. வனவிலங்கு பாதுகாப்பு அறக்கட்டளை, கோயம்புத்தூர் அவர்கள் சுத்தியல் தலை சுறா உப மீன்பிடிப்பு. தற்பேதைய நிலை. சுத்தியல் தலை சுறா மீன்களை எவ்வாறு அடையாளம் காண்பது மற்றும் அவற்றின் புறத்தோற்ற அளவுருகள் பற்றிய தரவுகள் மற்றும் புகைப்படங்களை சேகரித்து அவற்றை குடிமக்கள் அறிவியல் என்கின்ற வலைவாயிலில் (இணையதளம்) எவ்வாறு பதிவேற்றம் செய்வது பற்றி எடுத்துரைத்தார். இந்நிகழ்ச்சியை பற்றிய கருத்துக்கேட்புகள் மாணவர்களிடம் இருந்து பெறப்பட்டது. இறுதியாக திரு. க. கருப்பசாமி, உதவிபேராசிரியர் நன்றியுரை கூறினார்.
