"Harnessing the Science of Fisheries for Food, Nutrition and Livelihood"
The 10 th Foundation Day of TNJFU was celebrated at the College of Fish Nutrition and Food Technology, Madhavaram, Chennai on 25 th and 26 th June 2021. A webinar was conducted on “Seaweeds – Health Potential and Food Applications” on 25 th June. The programme started with the warm welcome address given by Dr. Usha Antony, Dean and Convenor, CFNFT, Madhavaram, Chennai. Around 132 participants from various institutes and organizations comprising students, research scholars, academic and industry persons attended the webinar. The first session was a talk by an eminent speaker, Dr. Suseela Mathew, Head of Division i/c, Biochemistry and Nutrition Division, ICAR – CIFT, Cochin, Kerala whose presentation on “Seaweed based Functional Foods Business Models from ICAR - CIFT”. The second speaker was Dr. M. Shanmugam, Vice President, Research and Development, AquaAgri Processing Pvt Ltd., Manamadhurai, TamilNadu.He enthusiastically presented a lecture on “Seaweeds as Food, Functional Food and Food Additives”. The speakers provided important insights into the topic of their expertice and also shed some light on the queries of the participants during the discussion. The programme ended on a positive note with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. K. Hema, Organizing Secretary, Assistant Professor, CFNFT, Chennai. E-Certificates were issued to the active participants on completion of the event and the webinar was well received by the participants as seen from the queries and the feed back obtained. The E-Quiz on “Edible Seaweeds–Health Benefits and Food Applications” was conducted on 26.06.2021. Around 200 participants were registered for the E- Quiz through google form. The first round (screening test) was conducted through google form with muliple choice questions. The 10 best scoring candidates were selected for the second round also conducted through Googlemeet. In this round, pictures of the seaweeds (relavant) were projected and questions posed in a powerpoint presentation. Ms.Keerthi and Ms. T.P. Tharshini Dev from the College of Fish Nutrition and Food Technology, Chennai and third prize won by Mr. Angad Gupta from State Institute of Food Processing, Lucknow. The programme ended well with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Usha Antony, Dean, CFNFT, Chennai.
