"Harnessing the Science of Fisheries for Food, Nutrition and Livelihood"

Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, College of Fish Nutrition and Food Technology organized webinar for National Nutritional Month,2021

Commemorating the National Nutritional month 2021, the TNJFU College of Fish and Nutrition and Food Technology organized a webinar on “Diet and Fitness for Youth” on 25.09.2021 jointly with the Association of Food Technologists, India (AFST(I)) and Network of Professional of Food and Nutrition (NetProFaN), Chennai chapter. A total of 170 students participated in the programme. Dr. Usha Antony, Dean, CFNFT delivered the welcome address to the dignitaries, resource person and the participants of the webinar. Dr. G. Sugumar, Vice chancellor, TNJFU delivered the presidential address and highlighted the importance of celebrating the National Nutritional Month and spoke on the pandemic impact on the diet and discussed about the common health issues faced by young people due to the lack of awareness of proper diet and nutrition. Dr. R. Brimapureeswaran, Assistant Professor, CFNFT greeted and introduced all the special guests and resource persons of the event.

Mr. A. Mannivannan, President, AFST(I), Chennai Chapter shared his thought on the significance and importance of diet and fitness for youth which may benefit the student community. Dr. Meenakshi Bajaj, Former President, Indian Dietetic Association and Convenor, NetProFaN, Chennai Chapter gave a presentation on the activities carried out by AFST(I) and NetProFaN. She emphasized on the six themes of the NetProFaN which includes Safe Food, Combating Food Adulteration, Healthy Diets, Food Fortification, Nutrition during the First 1000 days and No Food Waste. She also spoke about the “Eat Right India” initiative and its importance. Ms. S. Dhanupriya, Honorary Treasurer – AFST(I), NetProFaN, Chennai shared her thoughts on bringing the students and researchers together for Research, Innovation and Advancement in the field of Food Science and Technology.

Ms. Shreya Adhav, Founder and Sports Nutritionist at SpirEat Sports Nutrition Clinic took an elaborated session on the “Diet and Fitness for Youth”. She started her presentation by explaining the difference between the terms Health, Diet, Nutrition and Fitness. She highlighted the importance of the role of physical activity in daily life of young people and emphasized on the target heart rate and fitness. Dr. K. Hema, Assistant Professor, CFNFT delivered the vote of thanks and concluded the program. Conducted E-QUIZ AND FIRELESS COOKING COMPETITION for students in national Nutrition month celebration The E-Quiz on “Diet and Fitness for Youth” was conducted on 23.09.2021. The First Round (Screening Test) was conducted through google form with muliple choice questions. The 10 best scoring candidates were selected for the Second Round, which also conducted through Googlemeet. From this round, based on the scores, the best five participants were selected for the Final Round, in which cross word puzzles were projected and the questions were

given in powerpoint presentation. . The first and second places were won by Mr. A. Jefrin, College of Fish Nutrition and Food Technology,Chennai and Ms. Hayanthika M.S., Kongu Engineering College, Erode and the third place won by Ms. Ahila Benet K.C., College of Fish Nutrition and Food Technology,Chennai. The first three winners were to be given cash prizes of Rs. 1,000/- , Rs. 750/- and Rs. 500/- respectively by digital payment. The Fireless Cooking competition on the theme of “Good Protein, Good Health” was conducted on 23.09.2021. The candidates presented their product using power point in the given format and the session was opended for the disscussion after each presentation. Products were evaluated by Dr. Usha Antony, Dean, Chennai, Mrs. Dhanupriya, Honory Treasurer, AFST(I) Chennai Chapter and Faculties of CFNFT, Chennai. The first place was won by AISWARYA B. and COWSICA G. M., for the product Hung Curd Falooda from the College of Fish Nutrition and Food Technology, Chennai. Second place was won by ADITI S., for Super Protein Upma from the Kongu Engineering College, Erode and third prize was won by SANJAY RAJ R. and VIJAY M., for Protein Bar from the College of Fish Nutrition and Food Technology, Chennai. .Cash prizes of Rs1000, Rs 750 and Rs 500 for the first, second and third places were given by digital payment.
