"Harnessing the Science of Fisheries for Food, Nutrition and Livelihood"
A brainstorming session was held at IFPGS, OMR Campus, TNJFU, Chennai on 16.08.2016. Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. S. Felix presided over the session. University officers and Officer- in Charges of constituent units were participated in the session. During the introductory remarks, respected Vice Chancellor introduced the topic of discussion which is to develop a short term action plan for the development of fisheries and aquaculture in the country in the next three years. He emphasized the need to deliberate upon the subject which is very crucial in planning strategies in the fields of research and policy for the development of the fisheries sector in the country.
The deliberations were held under various theme areas such as Fisheries Education, Marine Fisheries Management, Aquaculture, Fishing technology, Processing and Post-Harvest Technology and ideas to bring the fish as a routine staple food for resolving malnutrition and ensuring food safety of the country. Presentations were made by the participants and discussions were held to finalise the action plan to be undertaken to achieve the development in fisheries and aquaculture in India in the next three years.
