Tamil Nadu Dr. J Jayalalithaa Fisheries University commenced counselling for admission to the various Degree Programmes offered by the University on 14.7.2019 at the Institute of Fisheries Postgraduate Studies, OMR, Vaniyanchavadi, Chennai. In the first day (14.07.19), counselling was held to fill up 168 seats for the B.F.Sc degree programme which includes quota for the Fishermen wards, Ex-servicemen, Differently-abled persons and NRI persons. It comprises 60 seats each for the Fisheries College & Research Institute, Thoothukudi and Dr. M.G.R Fisheries College & Research Institute, Ponneri, Chennai and 40 seats at the Dr. M.G.R Fisheries College & Research Institute, Thalainayeru, Nagapattinam district. Overall, admission to 330 seats for the various degree programmes of TNJFU will be held during 14-16 July 2019. Totally 6074 on-line applications were received against 4844 applications received last year.
Thiru. D. Jayakumar, Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries and Pro-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University handed over the admission letter to the top three meritorious students in the presence of Dr. K. Gopal, Principal Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries and Prof. S. Felix, Vice Chancellor, TNJFU. Honorable Minister gave the admit cards to the three top rank students – V. AMALA NIVI, K. MANO STAFFY JESSY and S.V.NANDHITHA for pursuing the B.F.Sc degree programme. In the first day counselling, 250 students participated and all the 168 seats were filled up for the University’s flagship programme i.e., B.F.Sc. In this event, Dr. A. Srinivasan, Registrar, Dr. S.A. Shanmugam, Chairman, Admission Committee and Controller of Examinations, Dr. K. Karal Marx, Dean, Institute of Fisheries Post Graduate Studies, Dr. R. Jayaraman, Director of Extension Education, Deans of the various colleges and other University Officers participated.
The University is having excellent placement record, till date highest (18%) placement is seen in both State Fisheries Department and private Industries separately followed by State Agricultural Universities (13%). Job opportunities in private industries are ensured by campus interviews through MoUs. Job opportunities in fisheries is expected to soar high as the sector is having average annual growth rate of 7% contributing 1% to GDP of the Country.
