One Day On Campus Training on “Spirulina Cultivation” held on 21.02.2022 By Fisheries College & Research Institute, Thoothukudi

Department of Aquaculture functioning under the control of Fisheries College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Dr. J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University offered one day on campus training programme on Spirulina Cultivation on 21.02.2022. A total of 15 trainees, including 7 women from various parts of Tamil Nadu were participated. During this programme, various aspects of spirulina cultivation such as
History & Importance of Spirulina Cultivation, Essential Medicinal Food, Isolation & Identification of Spirulina, Spirulina growing techniques, Factors affecting spirulina cultivation & its management, Calculation of spirulina production rate, Harvesting,
drying, packing and quality control aspects, Problems in spirulina cultivation & its management, marketing and economic aspects were taught to the trainees. Video show and Demo on spirulina cultivation were also be shown to the trainees  Dr.N.V.Sujathkumar, Dean i/c distributed the certificates to the participants and spoke on the importance of this training programme to motivate the aqua farmers
community to take up spirulina cultivation in their places. The aim of this training programme was to provide an idea on spirulina
cultivation which will pave way for self employment of the trainees. Dr.S.Athithan, Professor and Head of this Department conducted the training programme, who could be contacted for further information on Spirulina Cultivation.
