About Programme

Bachelor of Technology in Energy and Environmental Engineering, a four year professional degree program, is offered at College of Energy and Environmental Engineering under Faculty of Fisheries Engineering, Nagapattinam. This program aims at preparing students to address energy and environmental problems in fisheries sector in a successful way by imparting theoretical and practical knowledge in the area of fisheries, energy and environment. The core curriculum introduces alternative energy technologies (solar, wind and biomass) in fisheries, principles of energy conversion, energy efficiency, energy audit and management, concept of green building, power plant engineering and environmental compliance. This curriculum also includes laboratory based courses that teaches the processes and skills involved in planning, design and construction of renewable energy based projects and promoting sustainable aquatic environmental based projects with an emphasis on fishery industries.

The curriculum also imparts knowledge to apply the basic principles of water and wastewater treatment to the design of major components of aquaculture and fish processing waste water collection systems, wastewater treatment processes including distribution systems. Students also trained to evaluate the environmental and public health hazards arises due to fisheries and related activities, recommend cost effective technologies to eliminate waste and pollution while reducing energy consumption in fisheries activities. Further, the curriculum provides students with a rigorous foundation in both theory and practical in the field of basic engineering viz., civil, mechanical, computer science, electrical & electronics; fisheries science and fisheries engineering in addition to basic science.

This programme is designed to meet the human resource requirement of energy and environmental sector, Research and Development institutes involved in design and development of renewable energy based equipment and climate change mitigation.

It is also notable that the curriculum of B.Tech. (Energy and Environmental Engineering) is designed at par with the standards of professional degree program prescribed by ICAR and AICTE.
